Happy is the last song on my new album, The Stages of Grief. If you've listened to the song already, you'll know that it's not a happy song. Sorry for fooling you guys. It was a cheap shot, I know. ☺️
I think the cheesy and predictable thing for me to do would be to end this album on a positive note. Something about moving on, accepting change, or finding the light at the end of the tunnel. I didn’t want to do that.
Truthfully, I’m still on a quest to discover and embrace the new me (post-breakup). I don’t cry as often as I used to, or long to be with my ex as often, or feel as hopeless as I did a year ago. But every once in awhile, all of my negative thoughts and feelings come rushing back like a tsunami and I’ll write songs like this one. I grieve, process, and return to normal an hour later.
What I’ve learned over the past year is that happiness and grief can coexist. It sounds contradictory, but I’m learning to embrace both. Doing so has allowed me to see the grey in a world that pushes so hard to be black and white. And there’s beauty in the grey.
So there you have it! This is the end of the album, but not the end of my journey. I’ll still be here, writing and singing songs for you guys.
